Local Businesses

Here are a few of my favorite local, mom-owned businesses

Becoming a new mom can be the most rewarding, magical time in your life, and it can also be the most challenging and lonely. I really recommend that you reach out to other mom’s to find support and guidance. I have listed some mom-owned businesses that I support and believe in.

Homeless Prenatal Project

I strongly believe that every woman deserves a beautiful photograph from her pregnancy. This is why I became a pregnancy photographer. I have had the great opportunity to provide beautiful maternity portraits for my clients over the years. I now also give this gift to those who can not afford it.

A few years ago I met a woman named Martha Ryan. She was a parent at my children’s school. She started a non-profit organization called Homeless Prenatal Program. The program helps pregnant woman who are homeless and need help. Since 1989 it has grown to serve over 2,600 families. I knew that I wanted to be involved with this wonderful organization.

I started taking pregnancy photos of the women at Homeless Prenatal in November of 2007. I go once a month and take portraits of the mom’s to be. There is a wonderful bright, private room, with a huge window for me to photograph the women in. It is like a little studio! I bring my maternity clothes for them to wear. For many, this is the first time their pregnancy has been celebrated. In the first year I photographed over 90 women. I give them one of their photos in a beautiful frame as well as some prints, for them to keep. They are so grateful for the photos. I look forward to going each month.

Even my clients have gotten in on the act. Once they hear about this organization, they want to be involved too. Either through monetary donations or by donating their gently used maternity and or baby clothes, to the program. It is a wonderful circle of giving.
